For a normal taxpayer application, prepare business PAN and legal-name details, constitution records where applicable, promoter and signatory information, authorisation and proof of business premises. The exact attachments depend on your entity, premises and application route.
Get the business identity consistent
The GST Portal asks for the legal name as recorded against PAN, the state and district, and contact information for the primary authorised signatory. Review those details before starting. A trading name on an invoice may differ from the legal name, so keep both clearly labelled.
Create a small index of the records you plan to use. Note which document proves constitution, which proves premises and which proves authority to sign. The portal’s document checklist identifies relevant constitution and signatory records. Choose records for your entity rather than collecting every possible attachment.

Check whether the address, party names and arrangement agree across records. If they do not, identify the discrepancy before applying. Requirements for a particular case should be confirmed against the current portal instructions.
- Owned premises: review an acceptable ownership record, such as the relevant property-tax record or electricity bill.
- Rented or leased premises: prepare the rent / lease agreement and the lessor’s supporting ownership record.
- Consent or shared arrangements: review the applicable consent and supporting property evidence.
- Additional places of business: identify the locations and the records relevant to each.
Know who will verify and submit
Promoter or partner details, photographs and signatory authorisation are separate parts of preparation. The document checklist includes a letter of authorisation or applicable resolution and acceptance records. Confirm the person who will act as signatory and how that authority is documented.
Do a legibility check before uploading. Open every scan at normal reading size, confirm all pages are present and follow the file format and size shown in the live application. Portal screens can change; compressing a file until text becomes unreadable is not a useful shortcut.
GST Portal: registration document checklistApproval is followed by more preparation
The portal allows bank-account details to be added through a non-core amendment after registration. Its guidance also explains that the applicable time limit must be followed. Plan to complete and validate these details promptly; do not treat a registration certificate as the end of onboarding.
Build a folder for the application, acknowledgements, clarification requests and final registration records. Separately, decide who will maintain invoice data, review purchases and prepare returns. The free checklist here tracks preparation only: it neither checks whether registration is legally required nor submits an application.
